With more than $25 billion in revenue expected in the  U.S. in 2017, gaming continues  to soar in popularity. Opportunities in this industry and eSports are likewise expanding, especially in the Southeast. Come hear some of Atlanta’s  most successful and prominent participants in gaming and eSports and learn how you may fit into this dynamic and growing ecosystem.

5 Facts You Might Not Know About eSports

  1. ESports are defined as any multiplayer video game played competitively for spectators, typically by professional gamers.
  2. They might soon be an Olympic sport. According to CBInsights, the Olympics are considering adding a nonviolent eSport in 2024.
  3. The International Dota 2 Championship is the richest eSports tournament in the world. The purse for the 2017 event was $24 million divided among the winners. In comparison, the 2017 Masters Golf Tournament’s total purse divided among its top finishers was just $11 million.
  4. According to Twitch, the live streaming video application owned by Amazon, more than 100 million people log in to watch as much as 23 billion minutes of eSports each month.
  5. Seventeen U.S. colleges now offer eSports programs. Several of those colleges provide eSports Varsity scholarships.
